AMD Ryzen 4000G, Ryzen Pro 4000G, Athlon 3000G APUs Announced. AMD also released new Desktop APUs or Accelerated Processing Units Ryzen 4000 G and Ryzen Pro 4000 G lineups, the company’s word for integrated graphics CPUs. Codenamed ‘Renoir’ these laptop processors share the same architecture as AMD Ryzen 4000 series. With the introduction of AMD Radeon Vega graphics capability, Renoir is based on the same 7 nm Zen 2 core microarchitecture as the original Ryzen 3000 CPU lineup. This isn’t the Zen 3 architecture-based next-generation Ryzen set, which is also scheduled to debut later this year.

The recently released processors would only be distributed in bulk to OEMs and device integrators as they are eligible for use in pre-built desktop PCs, meaning retail packaged systems would not be offered by DIY customers. For this reason individual unit rates were not reported.

Focusing on OEM players like HP and Lenovo would enable AMD to enter the laptop market that has been building up. The Ryzen series has become popular with gamers and DIY makers, but relative to the massive competition for desktop PCs found in offices , schools and homes this is only a small market.

With its top-end Ryzen 7 4700 G, the company promises over 200 percent better graphics performance and over 30 percent better multi-threaded performance compared to an Intel Core i7-9700.MD has also previously focused on CPUs without integrated graphics, which are popular with gamers and power users who will still purchase powerful discrete graphics cards, but not with budget-minded buyers. Whether AMD plans to release these or similar models in retail in the future isn’t immediately clear.

The lineups Ryzen 4000 G and Ryzen Pro 4000 G are planned for customer and company use, respectively. These fit in the same Socket AM4 socket as all previous Ryzen desktop CPUs and will be compatible with existing motherboards of 400 series and 500 series desktops. The platform allows for up to DDR4-3200 RAM, and eight PCIe 3.0 lanes instead of PCIe 4.0 that support Ryzen 3000 series CPUs.

There are six models in each of the two series; one 65W and one 35W model in the Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, and Ryzen 7 tiers. The top-end Ryzen 4700G marks the first time that AMD has combined a high-end CPU with integrated graphics. It has eight core and 16 threads, with base and boost speeds of 3.6GHz and 4.4GHz respectively, plus eight Radeon Vega graphics compute units. The Ryzen 5 models have six cores and seven CUs, while the Ryzen 3 models have four cores and six CUs. All Ryzen Pro CPUs support full memory encryption, remote management and bulk deployment, plus additional security features and guaranteed availability.

Apart from these lineups, AMD has also introduced new laptop APUs from Athlon 3000 and Athlon Pro 3000 that will be priced lower and target more entry-level devices. Both are based on the Zen+ architecture of the preceding generation, used by CPUs of the Ryzen 2000 series desktop. The Athlon 3000 and Athlon Pro 3000 series each have three models, with one 65W and two 35W chips. The Athlon Gold 3150 G has four unmulti-threaded cores running at base and boosting speeds of 3.5Ghz and 3.9GHz respectively. The Athlon Silver 3050GE has two four-threaded cores, a base 3.4GHz clock and no boost functionality. Both Athlon versions are made of three Vega graphics CUs.
