Canon EOS R5 specifications, features
The Canon EOS R5 is specifically designed for those looking for a top-notch mirrorless camera with up to 8 K video recording support. The camera has a 45-megapixel sensor that is designed to provide improved dynamic range than what you can get on the EOS R. There is also support for continuous shooting up to 12fps using a mechanical shutter or 20fps using an electronic shutter. Under the hood, the Canon’s Digic X image processor supports an ISO range of 100-51,200, which can be expanded to as far as ISO 102,400.
Canon has provided its next generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus technology, which is an upgrade to the existing Dual Pixel CMOS AF. There is also a 100% autofocus coverage area. This means that you can concentrate on any part of the picture. The AF points on the EOS R5 have also been increased to 1,053—seven times more than those on the EOS R. In addition, there are 5,940 manually selectable AF positions.
EOS R5 also has Eye Detection AF Face Tracking, a proprietary technology that was first implemented on EOS R and EOS RP. You’ll also have the option to allow both human and animal AF Priority mode.
One of the main advantages of EOS R5 over existing EOS-series mirrorless cameras is its in-body image stabilization, which is designed to operate in tandem with the optical image stabilization (OIS) of the lens. It is effective up to 8-stop shutter speed and fits with both IS or non-IS-category EF and RF series lenses.
EOS R5 also lets you record 8 K images at a frame rate of 30fps, with full-sensor readout. During post-production, you can also crop your 8 K footage for 4 K delivery. Furthermore, the camera helps you to record 8 K RAW videos internally, without needing any accessories.
It is also possible to capture 4 K videos at 120fps. You will also be provided with file format options, including RAW, H.265 HEVC, and H.264 MP4, and ALL-I or IPB compression.
The EOS R5 has dual-band Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth v5.0 on the communication front along with Bluetooth Low Energy support. There are also USB Type-C and HDMI micro ports and 3.5 mm headphone connections. The camera also includes support for FTP and FTPS to allow you to transfer your image data directly to the FTP server. In addition, Canon has also provided its Cloud Storage Access that allows you to store your content in a virtual space for up to 30 days, with no limit in size.
The camera is equipped with a vari-angle LCD monitor with touch support and a top LCD panel for easy control. Multi-controller and Fast Control Dial are also available. In addition, you’ll get dual memory card slots that can include both a CFexpress card and an SD card. The magnesium alloy body camera has a dust-and water-resistant design and weighs 738 grams with the battery and the SD card.
