Mahindra Thar 2020: New Generation Powerful Machine. Finally, Mahindra has pulled the wraps off the much-awaited all-new 2020 Thar. The car was unveiled in two variants of its new generation-LX and AX. Mahindra has announced that this year’s car will officially launch on October 2. As mentioned before, Mahindra targeted at a broader market with the new Thar rather than appealing to a small client base. Precisely for that reason, the new-gen Mahindra Thar now comes with a host of creature comforts that make the car attractive to more people.
Mahindra Thar Price: The new Thar is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 14 lakh.
The SUV is based on GEN-3 architecture from Mahindra and will be available in two engine variants including a 2.0 liter mStallion T-GDI petrol engine and a 2.2 liter mHawk diesel version. The former provides 150bhp and 320 Nm output while the latter provides 130bhp and 300 Nm output. Transmission options include an automatic model with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter. The SUV features a 4×4 transfer case with manual shift-on-the-fly. In the new generation Mahindra has further improved the mechanics. Switching from 4-High to 4-Low mode multiplies 2.48 times the torque.
A front-axle disconnect feature is also being offered as standard. Braking locking differential on both sides (applies wheel(s) braking that do not provide traction) and hydraulic locking rear differentials.
Mahindra Thar Safety: It is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and front seatbelt reminder as standard.
A range of 245/75 R16 tyres are come on sale. But one can also go for the option of 255/65 R18 tyres. Spected against the latter, the SUV offers ground clearance of 226 mm. In addition to its off-road capability, the vehicle features an entry angle of 41.8 degrees, a launch angle of 36.8 degrees and a break-over angle of 27 degrees. The SUV has a water-wading range of 650 mm, too.
The SUV also has a waterwading capacity of 650 mm. Crucial elements such as electronic control units were mounted at a point above the wading plane in order to prevent some kind of equipment failure.
The latest Thar comes with an IP-54-rated, 17.8 cm water-resistant touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, adventure details monitor and roof-mounted speakers, among others, compared to the outgoing version. The multifunction steering wheel and the centrally positioned window controls are both water-resistant. Safety features come in the form of ABS and EBD, dual airbags, ESP with mitigation roll-over, hill-hold and control of hill descent.
Mahindra Thar Rivals: The Thar’s only natural rivals will be the upcoming new Force Gurkha and Maruti Jimny.
