The Sony WF-1000XM3 is the true wireless headphone flagship for the brand, which uses the patented QN1e noise canceling engine for efficient active noise cancellation. The earphones have 6 mm dynamic motors, a 20-20,000Hz frequency response range, Bluetooth 5.0, and SBC and AAC Bluetooth codec support. Such features make the Sony WF-1000XM3 a direct rival to the Apple AirPods Plus, currently one of the top-selling luxury true wireless headsets
Many may be concerned about the lack of support for superior Bluetooth codecs such as aptX and LDAC, particularly given the newly released Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 features the aptX codec support. Support for the AAC Bluetooth codec, however, means the Sony WF-1000XM3 is supposed to work with Apple’s iphones and most Android apps easily enough.
The Sony WF-1000XM3 offers up to six hours of music playback with disabled noise reduction switched on, or up to eight hours with ANC switched off. For a minimum estimated battery life of up to 32 hours per charging period, the case includes an additional three maximum charges.
The case is powered via a USB Type-C slot, and the case is also NFC-enabled for rapid pairing. Like for other Sony headphones and earphones, the true wireless earphones WF-1000XM3 can be personalized and controlled by the Sony Headphones Connect app, available for iOS and Android.
