Toyota’s new compact SUV Urban Cruiser for India in festive season. Tuesday toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced it is entering the country’s compact SUV segment with the launch of the ‘Urban Cruiser’ model during the upcoming festive season.
The sub-four-meter model , based on Vitara Brezza from Maruti Suzuki India, will compete in a segment that, amid a competitive market climate, has seen robust sales growth.
In addition to Vitara Brezza, the brand will clash with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and future Kia Motors and Nissan models.
The Urban Cruiser will strive to the discerning clients who are searching for more from a small SUV, TKM said in a statement.
During the festive season the company will introduce the compact SUV in its Indian line-up to meet the increasing demand for compact SUVs in India, he said.
“With a customer-first approach, TKM has always striven to satisfy its customers ‘ desires with the timely launch of new products and the Toyota Urban Cruiser is another such attempt to meet the changing consumer needs,” said Naveen Soni, TKM Senior Vice President (Sales and Services).
The company hopes the Urban Cruiser will give it the opportunity to welcome a new set of customers who not only aspire to early-life own a Toyota SUV, but also want to experience Toyota’s global sales and after-sales services standards, he added.
Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp had concluded a specific deal in March 2018 to sell electric and other vehicles on the Indian market to each other.
TKM already sources Baleno from Maruti Suzuki India as part of the arrangement, and sells it as Glanza after making some changes in design and features.
