What sets Valorant Mobile apart from PUBG Mobile and other battle royale games
Valorant has swiftly become one of the most popular tactical shooter games of all time, following its release in June 2020. Today, the game is a popular title among shooting game fans and a significant eSports competitive title. Valorant could be coming to smartphones soon, according to the game’s developer Riot Games.
On the one-year anniversary of the game, the developer stated the same. Valorant Mobile, on the other hand, is meant to be unlike other mobile battle royale games like PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, or Fortnite. For those unfamiliar with Valorant, here’s a rundown of what it’s about and how it differs from games like PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile.
Valorant: What is the game about?
Valorant is a tactical shooting game in which 10 players are divided into two teams of five players. In its most basic form, the game is comparable to the popular shooting game Counter-Strike, in which one team is charged with bombing a specific location (the bomb site), while another team is tasked with preventing the first team from achieving their aim.
Aside from planting or disarming the bomb, each team can also win the round by killing all of the opposing team’s members. Players also start with basic weaponry and have an in-game economy where they gain temporary currency for killing other players at the conclusion of each round, which they can spend on more powerful weapons and tactical equipment.
That’s because the premise is eerily similar to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Salvatore Garozzo, the map designer for CS: GO, also contributed to the game’s maps. Here’s what sets Valorant apart from Counter-Strike and pretty much every other game:
Valorant’s ‘Agents’ and their abilities
Rather to directing a SWAT/SEAL unit or a group of terrorists as in Counter-Strike, Valorant players command Agents. Before a match begins, each player can choose their agent and must play with him or her. The game’s agents have a variety of distinct capabilities and skills. These talents might be offensive, defensive, or tactical and are specific to each agent.
To complete the mission at hand and win, players must use a combination of their shooting skills and superpower-like abilities to outscore the opposing squad. Offensive ‘Duelists’ like Jett, Phoenix, Reyna, Raze, and Yoru are playable Agents. Then there are the ‘Sentinels,’ Sage, Cypher, and Killjoy, who specialise in defensive strategies such as securing a certain region of the field and defending comrades.
‘Initiators,’ on the other hand, are offensive pushers who deal with breaking past defensive opponent positions. Skye, Sova, and Breach are among the agents in this class. Finally, ‘Controllers’ specialise in positioning their team for success on the battlefield by controlling sightlines. Agents in this category include Viper, Brimstone, Omen, and Astra.
Both sides face off in a 25-round contest in the game’s default unranked mode, with the first side to win 13 rounds winning the match. However, there are a few more game types with slightly different rules, such as Spike Rush, Deathmatch, and Escalation.
How the game is different from PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile and other battle royale titles
Valorant is a strategy game, not a combat royale. It’s a cooperative shooter. Players will spawn once per round on opposite sides of a map, starting the game with a basic weapon, rather than being dropped on an island and forced to fend for themselves. In each round, progress is accomplished by achieving the team’s objectives or killing all of the opposing team’s members. There is no vast island or continually shrinking play zone, unlike PUBG or Call of Duty Mobile’s battle royale mode.
The match is won by the side that wins the most rounds. In contrast to battle royale games, where if a player is killed, the game is either ended or the player must spectate his or her teammates for the duration of the match, if you are killed in a round, the game does not finish for you and you respawn in the next round.
