Google Play Names AI-Powered Fashion App ‘Alle’ as Best App of 2024 in India

Google Play has unveiled its picks for the Best Apps and Games of 2024 in India, with Alle, an AI-powered fashion stylist app, taking the top spot as the ‘Best App of the Year.’ Announced on Tuesday, November 19, the tech giant’s annual recognition highlights the growing dominance of Indian developers, with five of the seven winners being homegrown apps.

Founded in 2023 by two former Meesho employees, Alle uses artificial intelligence to provide personalized fashion advice to users. Its features include an AI chatbot for expert styling tips, a virtual try-on function to preview outfits, and a platform to shop across multiple brands. The app was also recognized in the ‘Best for Fun’ category on Google Play.

Expressing his gratitude, Prateek Agarwal, co-founder and CEO of Alle, said, “Our next big goal is to make Alle the ultimate destination for discovering and shopping the latest fashion trends. We are working on two key priorities: ensuring our inspiration is always ahead of the curve with the most current trends, and making every single piece in every look instantly shoppable.”

Headlyne
Winning in the ‘Best for Personal Growth’ category, Headlyne uses AI to deliver personalized news, reflecting the growing sophistication of artificial intelligence in tailoring content to user preferences.

According to Sensor Tower, Indian users accounted for 21% of global downloads of AI-powered mobile apps this year. Google noted that India is rapidly emerging as a hub for AI innovation, with nearly 1,000 apps and games in the country integrating AI technology.

Meta-owned WhatsApp was named the ‘Best Multi-Device App’ for its seamless user experience across different devices.

Sony LIV
The streaming platform Sony LIV won in the ‘Best App for Large Screens’ category for offering an immersive viewing experience on bigger devices such as tablets.


Indus Battle Royale Wins ‘Best Made-in-India’ Gaming App

Pune-based gaming startup SuperGaming clinched the ‘Best Made in India’ award for the second consecutive year with its game Indus Battle Royale. The app stands out for its integration of Indian themes and storytelling within the popular battle royale genre.

“Our team spent over three years crafting Indus, with detailed characters, environments, and innovative gameplay features like our alternate win condition called ‘Cosmium’ and our unique ‘Grudge’ revenge system,” said Roby John, co-founder and CEO of SuperGaming.

He added, “A core part of this journey involves establishing Indus as a competitive esports title. Esports is a key pillar of our roadmap, and we are committed to nurturing a thriving competitive scene that brings together passionate gamers.”
